'We Are All Sad And In Shock': With 17 Stores On Long Island, DressBarn Closure Hits Hard Here

Reaction to news of DressBarn going out of business from readers was mostly sad.

Some remembered their mothers shopping at one of the 650 DressBarn stores affected. The news hit Long Islanders especially hard. DressBarn has 17 stores on the Island.

Comments Tuesday, May 21 to the Daily Voice article posted on the Suffolk County Daily Voice Facebook Page included:

"I think we are all sad and in shock! Very sad," said Suzann Bouchard Doczy.

Theena Good Spencer said, "My favorite store to shop at. Breaks my heart all these women are going to lose their jobs. Don’t know where I’m gonna shop at now. Wonder what the store employees will do."

"Love that place. Always buy my clothes there. I'm going to miss it very much," said Elizabeth Zangari.

Anne Stevens said it's "the only store at Tanger Outlets near me that I actually visited every season and for special occasions."

Mary Tomitz said she's "sad."

Theena Good Spencer said, "My favorite store to shop at. Breaks my heart (that) all these women are going to lose their jobs. Don’t know where I’m gonna shop at now."

Rikki Brenenson Burke  said, "I’m really gonna miss this store."

Lynne Ginocchio Cohen said "So many women loved this store. My mom did and she dressed beautifully."

Daily Voice asking members of Long Island AMAZING MOMS of Nassau and Suffolk group on Facebook will they miss DressBarn and where else will they shop.

Stephanie Gambino Sarcone said she just bought a dress at one of them for her son's May 11 Communion. "It was perfect for church and dinner after," she said.

Jane DM Kershaw-Starkes said she goes in for more than dresses. "They have the only jeans that fit me."

"I love that place always by my clothes there I'm going to miss it very much," said Elizabeth Zangari.J

Jennifer Hellers-Yaghoubi said, "My go-to for a dress for an occasion. I hate going to department stores and never found anything. But always found a dress or suit at DressBarn. Online is killing the stores, this is how I lost my job as a manager of a retail store."

Gail Mendelson Levine said, "I love it and will miss it. They have dresses, that fit and aren't a fortune. I don't want to have to go to a department store to find a dress. Its less of a hassle."

Jennifer Mackey-Falco said, "I’m so sad."

Lynne Ginochio Cohen of Mount Sinai, said, "My mom especially was the most loyal shopper of all and my daughter. When Port Jeff Station opened (she) became a regular, I know she shopped others before but this was number one. It’s so sad what’s going on with the stores.

Nicole Dehney-Callahan said, "So upset they are losing. My go-to place for clothes for work and every day."

Joanne Cirella said, "I love DressBarn. I'm sad about them closing." Asked where she'll shop when the store closes, she said, "I love Macy's Backstage store on 110 in Melville. They have great stuff and inexpensive."

Terry Nicosia said, "Maybe they should have tried changing the name from, "Barn" to something else."

Still, Annie Tilton saw the upside. "I’m looking forward to the sales," she said.

And Rae Anne McLaughlin said, "Honestly, I didn't know they still existed."
